Link Between Meat Consumption And Colorectal Cancer †Free Samples

Question: Discuss about the Link Between Meat Consumption And Colorectal Cancer. Answer: The wellbeing of humans is mostly dependent on the diet and nutrition it utilizes for energy production. The link between the diet consumed and the diseases is established by several researchers. This assignment will be discussing two such article linking meat consumption and its link to colon and rectal cancer. In the research of Beef Information Center (2007), it is not properly established that consumption of red meat leads to colon and rectal cancer as the Relative Risk (RR) and Odd Ratio (OR) was below 2, that determines inconsistent risk factor. However, the paper stated that several other co-risk factor, which are under human control for modification, can lead to cancer in combination. Whereas, the second paper by World Cancer Research Fund International (2007), meta-analysis study and cohort case-controlled study that was able to determine a dose-response relationship between red meat consumption and emergence of colorectal cancer, as per the decision of the panel. Both the papers conducted case control studies and searched for pre-published research papers to understand the linkage between colon cancer and consumption of red meat. However, while critically, assessing results it can be said that both the paper focused on consumption patterns however, the paper by World Cancer Research Fund International (2007) differentiated the paper based on aspects such as exposure category, age, sex, consumption time per week and amount per week or day that determined unbiased exclusion and inclusion criteria, which the other paper did not performed (Beef Information center, 2007). These factors should be taken into consideration for the credibility of the paper. The weakness of both the papers was they included papers having focus on either processed meat or on red meat, however the research topic in both the topic was consumption of meat in general (World Cancer Research Fund International, 2007; Beef Information Center, 2007).
